Flea Market Finds

I thought I'd share some vintage treasures I found at a local flea market. Antiques and vintage lovelies always inspire me. I hope they do the same for you!

This is my favorite find, a 1940's tablecloth! I luuuvvv anything from the 40's, so I was thrilled to snatch this up. Best of all, it was a heck of a bargain too!

I adore depression glass. I have a pretty little set of green dessert plates that I got from my grandmother, so when I saw this cake plate I had to have it! It will be the perfect set for coffee and dessert!

This pretty little had mirror's handle reminds me of the art deco lines of the 40's, so of course I snapped it up. You just gotta love that green color too!

I'm am shamelessly addicted to dishes. It's a sickness passed down generations in my family, and much to my hubby's dismay, there is no cure! :) I just couldn't resist this sweet little glass plate!

I hope these colors, patterns, and styles inspire you! Add some vintage flair and a few found objects to your next craft project!

A 2nd Custom Goodie Box

I thought I'd share a few peeks of a new goodie box I'm working on.

Some sweet and shabby chipboard blossoms, loaded with sparkle and tulle.

Some glitzy title tags with vintage seed packet images and a cute crepe paper fringe.

A trio of girlie felt arrows.

And a Victorian inspired journaling block.

I'm going to be putting some arrows in the shop over the next day or so as well as some more chipboard blossoms, so check back to see all the fun colors and designs!

More Goodies for the Shop

I'll be adding more goodies to shop again today, like this yuuummy vintage lavender ribbon! It's so pretty and lacey with tiny little polka dots, your going to want to get your hands on some right away!

I'm decorating cupcakes today for a friends baby shower, how fun! I luv to make cupcakes! I printed out a French vintage baby powder ad onto some sticker paper and made some cute cupcake picks. (Oh, and I tried a new recipe for buttermilk cupcakes...wow! They are so yummy! I'd be happy to share the recipe if anyone else out there like to make cupcakes too!)

Ok, off to make frosting! Check the shop later for new items, and I'll be back to share some pictures later! (I'm working on another custom goodie box!)

Photo Editing Tricks and a Shop Update

I am by no means an expert on photo editing programs, but I thought I'd share a few more easy tricks I was playing around with. These photos are from our recent visit to Greenbluff Farms.

For this photo, I used the color saturation option. I took some of the color out of the photo (if you take it all out it becomes black and white) and then I bumped up the red tone to create a kind of pinky hue to her skin. I wanted it to look warm and soft and similar in color to the berries themselves. Super easy!

I just love these baskets! I wish I could've brought them home with me! On this photo I used the saturation again to take some of the color out and then I also removed some of the brightness. This gave it a softer faded antique look that suited the worn baskets so well.

These wheat fields were so beautiful, and they went on forever! In this photo, I increased the brightness then I decreased the contrast to give it a softer look. The more you decrease the contrast the more it looks like you have laid vellum over your photo. Kind of a cool look to play around with.

On this last photo, I wanted to jump up the color and really make it look bright and fun. I wanted that berry stained face to jump off the page. I bumped up the contrast and the color saturation until it was the way I wanted it.

Just a few simple ideas that can make your photos look a little different. I have said before that I have the most basic editing program, but it's fun to play around with different looks.

I'm adding new items to the shop today and tomorrow, so check it out!

More Goodie Box Pictures

I thought I'd share a few detail shots of the goodies that were in the shabby embellish met box. These are some of the, as my daughter says, "boylish" ones.

This is a fun little vintage bingo card that I made into a "frame". It's gonna be so cute with a picture of her son on it!

These are my layered button arrows. I'm going to be putting some of them in the shop soon. Arrows are so trendy right now, and I love them! I love that something so simple can add the perfect touch to a project!

These are some jumbo layered buttons. I love to use felt and chipboard, so combining them is just great! I "stitched" all three layers together with bakers twine and tied it up. I love the polka dots too. I think polka dots make everything just seem more fun, don't you?

A few "Birds of a Feather" Kit Projects

Here are a few projects from the new "Birds of a Feather" paper crafting kit. It will be in the shop later this morning.
This is a 12x12 2-page layout I made of my daughter. I love to be able to use something besides pink for little girl pictures! I cut the large scalloped chipboard circle in half and used it on one page and then carried the scallop theme over to the other side by using one of the chipboard scalloped border strips. (Oh goodie, now I still have half of the scalloped circle to play with! You could use it to make a wall hanging like the one I made with the "Woodland Fairytale" kit, see the kit post)

I used one of the cute little felt birds here. I just love how the pear eye brings a little something glitzy to the page.

I used one of the artisan labels to do my journaling. They are just so versatile! They go with anything!

This is a little thank you card I made. I love to have handmade cards on hand for a variety of occasions, then when I need one they are always there! I used some of the sparkly red tulle and gathered it with a vintage button. Simple and pretty!

I have a ton left, and have several more projects to work on. This kit is really versatile, I think I will use some of what is left to make a heritage layout.

Be sure to stop by the shop and check it out! I have another kit in the works called "Summer Skies." It has all the rich warm colors that remind me of that end of summer transition into fall. It has some beautiful vintage inspired papers too, so watch for it!

Shabby Vintage Box of Goodies

I just thought I'd share a little of what I've been working on lately! I had a custom order for a Pink Owl Paperie "goodie basket", and this is some of what I came up with! I altered a vintage pencil box with a few layers of paint and a crackle finish and then spiffed it up with some scrapbook goodness.

I love vintage buttons and pom pom trim.

I filled the box with all kinds of handmade embellishments and a few other goodies and lined it with and vintage hankie. (I just love vintage linens! I scored a great table cloth at a yard sale the other day... 1940's my absolute favorite!)

This is a peak at the 8x8" mini album that I made to along with the order. I'm going to be making some more 8x8 albums for the shop too.

I'll show some more detail of the embellishments and page layouts in the album later! I'm off to finish those fair/carnival embellishments! Yeah!

CUUUUTE STUFF!

I love Etsy! I love that there is a place us crafty people can go and it's like a year round 24/7 Arts and Crafts Fair! I have met the nicest most amazing people there too! If you haven't ever browsed around you definitely should! I though I'd take a minute to show you a few of my latest discoveries that are on my must have list!

First I got this cute little hair clip from www.lalibug.etsy.com. It looks so sweet in my daughters hair! You should go check her out!

I also have to show you these super cute school file folders! They are just perfect for storing all those special pieces of artwork, report cards, etc. Man, I really need to get one of these, my son is only in preschool and I have mountains of papers! LOL, maybe because I'm a scrapbooker, and we tend to save everything! I found them at www.boysmamaXtwo.etsy.com.

Now for all you gals who do craft shows, I have to say I want one of these super cute handy dandy aprons! I found them at www.cwadedesigns.etsy.com.

And finally one more...this gal does the most amazing artwork! It is so perfect for a child's room! There is one that reminds me so much of my daughter I can't wait to buy it! I found them at www.sarahjanestudios.etsy.com.

Ok everyone have a great day! I'll be adding lots of new items to the shop over the next week so be on the watch!

Altered Bingo Card and a Sneak Peak

I wanted to show you what I made using the vintage bingo card from the Woodland Fairytale Paper Crafting kit. This cute little boy hugging his teddy is my Dad! I wanted to display this photo in our home, so I decided to make a little "frame" out of the bingo card. I layered paper, a vintage flash card, felt shapes, and buttons tied with bakers twine. It was so quick and easy to make and now it looks so cute sitting on a little black stand in my family room. I thinks it's really cool that it has "Hal 21 months" written in my grandmother's handwriting! (we will talk more about the importance of using your handwriting on your projects later :) It's a fun alternative to a traditional picture frame. You can buy the stands all over the place, I think I got this one at Walmart. I just love finding new ways to incorporate scrapbooking into my home!

I also wanted to give you a little sneak peak at some new fair and carnival themed embellishments I've been working on. I don't know about you, but I want to soak up as much of these last days of summer as I can!

Oh, I wanted to mention I have a few bingo cards left if anyone is interested in a mini kit to make a "frame" or wall hanging. Just leave a post or convo me at the shop! (see pinkowlpaperie link to the right)

A Sketch and a Layout!

So there's a new sketch. I made it for a 12x12 layout with 4 approx 4x6" photos. I used it for the Circus page below. I layered 2 patterned papers on top of card stock, and cut large scallops into the bottom one. I chose to mat only 2 of the photos instead of all four and I embellished with bright colored buttons, orange vintage rickrack, and orange pom pom trim. Everything is so bright and colorful I wanted to keep the page on the simple side so it wouldn't be too overwhelming. Of course, this sketch is just a starting point to jump your own creativity, so get scrapping and make your own version! I'd love to see your interpretations so send me a link or a photo!

Finally!

a little peek!

Ok, as promised, I finally have a few of the new goodies in the shop. "Sugared" felt strawberry embellishments and yummy ice cream cone journaling spot/embellishments. More to come still.... apples, cherries, carnival and fair inspired journaling spots and embellishments, artisan labels, sparkled felt blossoms.... and more. I'm off again, more to do! Oh, and watch for another sketch this week too.

Happy Monday!

Good Morning Everyone! Happy Monday! I'm back from my weekend getaway, and happy to say some goodies are going in the shop today. A few new things too... should be in the shop by this afternoon, so I'll be back then. Hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

Oh, and I just wanted to respond to a few posts about the photo editing. I just have a basic editing program that came with my camera. Nothing fancy. I think most programs probably have a "color saturation" adjustment you can use, and if I can do it, anyone can. I must be one of the most technologically challenged people around. I know I've said this before, but it's true. Just try playing around with your editing program, you'll be surprised how easy it is! Good luck!

Ta Ta for now!

Saturday, August 9, 2008

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you know I'll be out today and tomorrow! I should have some new goodies for the shop on Monday, so be sure to check back then! Have a great weekend!

Some Summertime Ideas...

I have been playing around a lot with the saturation of my photos in my photo editing program. I've been using it to create a "tinted black and white" look on pictures I've taken of my children. I recently saw some carnival pictures that had a similar tinted look, more sophisticated editing techniques had obviously been used than I have access to in my little program, but I was able to achieve a similar look with some photos I took yesterday at our county fair. I really liked the idea; it gives the pictures that vintage feel I love so much! All I did was go to the color editing portion of my program and under color saturation I lowered the levels until I liked the look. I left more color in these because I still wanted them to be fun and summery. Really easy! If you haven't already played around with this you should try it! So many great ways to use it, especially with fall coming up! I can see pumpkin patch pictures with only the orange of the pumpkins "lighting" up the shot!

I left these last two unedited because well I do still love the bright colors of the summer!

Ok, now you try! Be sure and take lots of photos in this last month of summer! It's always so nice to have plenty of summer memories to scrapbook through those cold winter months! :)
