Valentines Day Traditions

Since we were talking about the importance of scrapbooking your family traditions yesterday, I thought I'd share one of our Valentines Day traditions today.

I made little mailboxes for each one of our children and one for hubby and I to share. Then the week before Valentines Day I put a card, a sweet, or surprise in their mailboxes each day. My kids absolutely love this tradition; it has become one of their favorites. I think they love the idea of getting their own mail! They are so excited about each card and goodie. Since this is so popular in our house I decided to make a few mailboxes for my etsy shop.
This is the Froo Froo Mailbox. It's super girly and a bit over the top, but really how can you have too much floof for Valentines Day.

This is Cupid's Mailbox, it's going in the shop today. I just love that little vintage cupid image, too cute!

Be sure to start some fun Valentines Day traditions for your family! I'll be sharing more of ours as we head into February. I'd love to hear yours to! Leave a comment and share your fab ideas with us!

A Christmas Challenge Layout

I don't know about you, but I take a lot of photos- especially during the holidays. I thought I'd share what I like to do when I don't want 5 layouts of the same "event" but I want to make sure the photos are scrapbooked. I simply make a pocket layout. I turned the second page of this 2 pg. spread into a pocket by putting adhesive on only three edges of my paper. I also love to sew around the edges, but I had loaned my machine out to a friend when I did this page. Then I all had to do was tuck the extra photos behind the pocket!

Every year my family and I go Christmas tree hunting on Thanksgiving morning. It is one of our favorite family traditions. Be sure to scrapbook your family traditions, even if they are things you wouldn't normally photograph! Your family will thank you so much for it later!!

I love to use gathered or ruffled ribbon on my projects. This super cute red polka dot ribbon is lightly wired, so it made it so easy to fold into gathers! I just accordion folded it and then glued it to my page. I also used one of the "Vintage Journaling Cards" from the set in my shop and added a little button border. (PS. the polka dot ribbon will be in the shop soon too if ya want to get ya some!)
More ribbon ruffles and a super cute journaling spot from Jenn at My Creative Mess. She is super talented to be sure to check her out!
I also used the "Macintosh Apple Felt Photo Corners" from the shop on this layout. I love how they add texture, detail, and POLKA DOTS. I love polka dots!
Because there wasn't a lot of room for journaling on this page I tucked an old postcard image I journaled on and tucked it in the pocket. I like to do this with my journaling that is more personal as well. Ya know, something I wouldn't want just any old person who picked up my album to read.

Ok keep scrapping away everyone! We've got to get all those Christmas photos scrapped!!! I love to see your challenge pages too! Send me a picture or a link!

Simple Things...

I am not hard to please. Simple things really make me so happy. That's why I'm sharing this with you today! Look at these beautiful vintage flower bouquets! So bright, colorful, and delicate! I could just eat them up! I got these in the mail the other day and I just had to take a picture of them. I know, call me crazy, but I was literally doing a happy dance as I opened the box.

These flowers remind me of crafting with my Gram when I was a little girl. She had tons of these flowers (what I wouldn't give to have them now...) and we used them for everything. We used them to make bouquets and window boxes for my dollhouse, on ornaments, and anything else they could be glued or tied to. I loved playing with them. I can remember thinking how special they were as they sat in a little "vase" on my dollhouse table. I still love them today, maybe even more so because I now longer have my Gram around.

Now I get to use these beauties in fabulous scrapbooking and collage projects! I just can hardly wait! Have a wonderful day everyone! Be sure to get some of the Christmas photos scrapped for the challenge! (see previous post)

The First Challenge...

Well I told you I was going to start having some challenges to help us all be extra productive scrappers this year... so here goes! Our first challenge is to get all those Christmas and holiday photos scrapbooked. I started my "pile" with the photos of us cutting our Christmas tree and ended with New Years (and all the holiday events, traditions, and fun in between). I know my stack looks huge, but I haven't sorted out the photos I printed for family and friends yet. I always have my camera, so I usually have lots of photos I need to share. I'm so proud of myself for having them printed out already! So the challenge is this: starting today we have 30 days to get all those holiday photos scrapbooked. Now for some of you 30 days will be more plenty of time, but I know some of you think it's not nearly enough. Don't worry, I will be sharing my layouts, sketches, and tips to help us all get the job done and I'd love for you to share yours as well! Everyone who participates in the challenge by sharing photos of your layouts will get some Christmas journaling cards from the shop. Think how good it will feel to have all those pages done and in your albums! A great new start to a new year. So are you ready??? Lets get scrapping!

A Birthday Special....

Happy Wednesday! Well today is my birthday and since I'm feeling rather spoiled, I thought I'd spoil my customers too! Everyone who purchases something from my shop today will get an extra goodie in the mail. (hint hint some of my new journaling cards...) I'm just feeling so extra special today because this is what I came home to last night:

My mom offered to watch the kids last night so my hubby and I could go on a little early birthday date. Well little did I know that she and my wonderful kiddo's planned a little surprise party for me! (My son Parker loves to throw surprise birthdays, too cute!) When we got home from the movies I found my kids waiting at the kitchen table with presents (Grandma took them shopping so they could pick something out) and cupcakes that they had decorated. The cupcakes were covered in sprinkles, candy and Oreo cookies, the kids ideas of course. They were so proud of themselves! They even did all the frosting. I was showered with "I love you mama" as I opened the cards they made me and their gifts. It was soooo special, I cried my sappy little heart out as I opened them. How sweet of my Mom, she's an amazing lady! It was so great to see how happy the kids were to do something for someone they love. Sigh.... I'm so very blessed! So that's why I'm passing some onto you!

Ok, I'll stop being sappy now! Here are those new chipboard blossoms I've been mentioning. They will be going in the shop this week, so watch out! I just love how they turned out. If you have a particular color combo you'd like, just convo me in the shop and I'll whip some up for you!

If you notice over to the left I've added a mailing list sign up... so be sure to go and sign up so I can email you about the special of the month, sales, giveaways and other fun events.

I'm also going to start posting challenges to the blog in hopes that we will all have a very productive and "scrappy" 2009. The first challenge is going to involve getting all those Christmas and New Years photos scrapbooked. So you might want to make sure you have them downloaded and printed this week...I just sent mine off today. To make it a little more "inspiring" those of you who participate in the challenges will receive a little something from the shop.

Another Valentine Card

I've been having a lot of fun playing around with these photos, so I thought I'd share another Valentines Day card with you!

With this one, I turned the photo black and white and then "colored" my daughter's eyes and her butterfly wings. I added "I love you" and a flourish design. (for some reason this is not showing up very well on the blog...) Easy as pie,and now I just have to send it off to be printed. Yeah! I will be making some "scrapbooked" Valentines for my immediate family, but having these photo Valentines makes it so easy to send them to family and friends all over!

I have new stuff going in the shop today, so be sure to swing on over and check it out! I'll also be making some fun announcements about some new happenings this week, so stay tuned!

Valentine Photo Cards

A week or so ago I took some fun pictures of my kids to use for Valentines cards. I always use Valentines day as a good holiday to get distant family caught up on pictures of the kids. Christmas is always so hectic, it works so much better for me to send a little Valentines package to our families.

This year I decided to make photo cards instead of scrapbooking cards and sending separate photos. I thought I'd show you one of the cards I made using a photo of my youngest son. (I know it looks a little girly, my hubby pointed that out. But he's wearing angel wings and they looked so cute...)

I changed the tint on the photo to look old fashioned and used a brush stroke pattern to give it some texture. Then I put it into a digital vintage frame added the heart, bird, and sentiment. Voila! Cute, easy, done! I'm going to make several different styles using the photo's I took that day then all I have to do is upload to Costco.com and I'll have instant Valentine cards! Yeah! Be sure and give this a try, it's such a wonderful way to tell someone your thinking of them this Valentines day!

Be sure to check the shop for some other fun Valentine goodies, they will be going in all week!

More sneak peeks...

Here are some more new journaling cards! I love the bright colors and of course the bracket shapes! These come in a couple of color combos including a classic chocolate brown, cream, brick red, and colonial blue. They come in set of six and coordinate with several of the blossoms and photo corners from the shop

These are part of the "Fancy Shmancy" line. The # circles come in 1-12 and the romantic sentiment squares come in a set of 6. They would be perfect for wedding, Valentines day, or any time you want something a little fancy!

I'll be showing more goodies that coordinate with these soon, so stay tuned! Be sure to check out my shop because I have lots of new goodies going in!

New Embellishments!

Yeah! My computer is working again! So now I can show you those fun new embellishment lines I've been working on!

These are from the "Wee Ones" baby line. Baby boy journaling cards and baby girl journaling cards come in sets of 6 and each one has a different vintage greeting card image, super sweet. The "Shiny Baubles" are a new embellishment made with vintage images that have been backed with chipboard. I put a thick glaze over them to make them shiny and have a glass like appearance. They would be adorable as flower centers! There are a lot of other embellishments in the shop (and coming soon) that coordinate with this line. I'll be posting a photo of all of them soon...

These are from my "Lovey Dovey" Valentines embellishments. The journaling cards come in a pack of six and each features a different vintage Valentine image. There are more new embellishments coming soon that will coordinate with them, including some velvet blossoms!
